This Campaign is a joint initiative by the National Committee of UNIFEM Singapore, Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics, and Transient Workers Count Too. For further information, please look under the section of 'Campaign HQ' on this site.
This is a public education campaign aimed at encouraging employers in Singapore to voluntarily give their domestic worker a day off. Through this website and other campaign activities such as talks, events, and news articles, we hope to convince large audiences of the importance of giving their domestic help personal time off.
A Day Off is important because:
- It is a basic labour right. Domestic Workers, unlike all other employees, are not included in the Singapore Employment Act which guarantees one day off a week by law.
- It will improve the morale and productivity of your Domestic Worker, thereby, enhancing the employer-employee working relationship.
- It will give FDW’s the opportunity not only to utilize their free time to learn new skills and increase their knowledge but also be empowered as individuals.
- FDW’s are productive individuals who make an extremely valuable contribution to Singaporean society and like all other workers, they should be accorded a day off.
